The University Libraries have theses and dissertations from every WVU student who earns a master's or doctoral degree. Prior to 1998, these were published in print format, and are housed in one of several branch libraries on campus according to their respective disciplines, for example, the areas of science and technology are at the Evansdale Library, the humanities, etc. are at the Downtown Library, and health science topics are at the Health Sciences Library.
As of August 15, 1998, West Virginia University implemented a policy that requires all master's theses and doctoral dissertations to be submitted electronically, and are distributed on the Web according to the student's indications. Electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) contribute to worldwide graduate education and unlock the under utilized results of graduate education for the scholarly community.
Individual theses and dissertations of all formats (print and electronic) can be located in the MountainLynx library catalog under subject, title, author, or keyword.
