Newspapers
The newspaper collection is quite extensive due to the variety of the papers received. At the Downtown Library, the Periodicals Department on the 2nd level receives all newspapers:
West Virginia | Out-of-State | International
These papers arrive at various times: daily, weekly, monthly, depending on the frequency of the publication.
Most newspapers are in the Periodicals Department until they are replaced by microfilm. West Virginia newspapers on microfilm are in the West Virginia Collection on the 6th floor of the Wise Library.
Out-of-state newspapers on microfilm, including the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Los Angeles Times and others, are kept in the Periodicals Department. International newspapers are kept approximately one year and are then discarded, but there are a few exceptions to this and they are also located in the Periodicals floor.
