West Virginia Collection

The West Virginia & Regional History Collection contains the largest collection of information resources pertaining to WV in existence.

All researchers entering the West Virginia Collection must sign in at the Reception Desk. The staff there will give you guidelines for using the Collection.

Upon entering the Collection, visitors see the American flag hanging behind the registration desk. Dating from the Civil War, this flag is one of only a handful of surviving 35 star flags.

The flag was handmade in Shepherdstown and greeted WV soldiers returning home after the Battle of Gettysburg.
